Written: 31/7/2002 ‘Blood on the Ground’ by Incubus plays as the lights dim. A grey haze only starts to appear as Robert Young marches out. He ignores the booing and the typical Young entrance as he walks straight to the ring. He is dressed in a pair of jeans and an old Offspring shirt. He slides into the ring and grabs a mic that lays there. Young: Look I was told to turn up to this show to give my two cents on my last performance and future opponents. Young looks at the ring itself as he thinks. Young: Quite frankly I don’t want to be here today. Once I have done this speech I will leave the arena. Beaumont can fine me for not staying until the end of the show. Talk to my lawyers. Sigh Young: Really, I’m not a good mood. I recently lost my belt, my stable collapsed, and then I suffered a pathetic defeat at the hands of Subdued. I am not taking anything away from Subdued, but I was utterly pathetic. So here we are, another Fusion approaches and I have a tag match. Luckily it is with my mate Gol. It seems it is against our old EEI friends Brimstone and Pariah. At the mention of Pariah’s name the crowd boo. Young: I would love to kick Pariah’s…. The crowd cheer this but Young just gives a blank expression. Young: But unfortunately I don’t give a damn about this match. I have more important things on my mind. Young pauses here as the crowd is silent. They are unsure about this surprising announcement. Young: Yeah I know, I should come out here and talk about how superior I am, I should analyze my opponents, talk about their weaknesses and my strength. I should chat about how Gol is the best partner I could have. I should talk about the desire to kick their arses. But honestly I couldn’t be bothered. I don’t really care. I will comment on some of the things my opponents said, but only briefly. I have better things to tell you. Young: It is obvious I am not having a good time. It is obvious I want to get myself together. That is more important than a Fusion match that holds no importance in the grand scheme of things. I came back to mercury in red hot form, and I only got better to the point where I became the North American champion. I did that cleanly going through Brimstone, Dirge and others. But I lost that belt to Jin Akujin. A belt I wanted to have a powerful impact on. It was a belt I wanted to elevate to new heights. All that came crashing down, and now you have seen the result, my abysmal effort against Subdued. Young shrugs his shoulders and sits on the turnbuckle. Young: So pardon me if I don’t give a rat’s ass about facing these two losers from the EEI. I have to think about the future. One where the group of EEI doesn’t exist. I have to think can I carry those ideals without the name behind me. I have to think about my own wrestling, the set back I have been given. I have to think about regaining my North American belt. I may even have to think about going after a bigger belt if you know what I mean. I am defiantly not too concerned about a meaningless tag match. Young: Is that a problem? Most likely for Brimstone and Pariah who will come out here bitching and moaning, saying Young’s not going to get the job done. If it is a problem for Gol I apologize, but I know he understands where I am coming from. Young: But regardless of my level of care factor I still will be Robert Young. I will be the man who has defeated Brimstone 50% of the time as he says. I might not give a damn but Robert Young always fights. It’s in my damn character. So boys, regardless of where my mind is you better watch out. Oh and Pariah, you can compare Gol’s reign to Tommy Rich, but the fact remains he defeated you for it. Oh and Brimmy we have our past I respect you. Don’t worry about that. But you know I have what it takes to defeat you, and I can and will do it again. Young jumps off the turnbuckle and slides under the ropes. He walks up the aisle with the mic, as he reaches half way he turns and faces the crowd. Young: I think I have wasted enough time on this. I have other things to do. So I’m leaving. He drops the mic and finishes the walk up the ramp. The segment ends. View Robert Young's Biography |
